  1. muncie birder says:

traders attempt to make money by selling at a higher price than they buy at. Here is an example. About 15 minutes after the market open, it might have been possible to buy 1000 shares of BBT at about 16.20 a share. If you had purchases 1000 shares at that price, and later in the day had sold the 1000 shares at 17.00 a share you would have made $800 on the transaction. Not too bad for a few hours work.

There are many ways you can profit (“make money”) from trading (buying/selling) stock such as:

    1. Buying stock at a certain price per share (example: $10.00) and selling at a higher price per share (example: $15.00).

    2. Shorting stock at a certain price per share (example: $90.00) and then covering your short position at a lower price per share (example: $70.00).

    3. Buying stock that pays quarterly dividends (example: $0.45 a share).
