etrade as scottrade has mediocre research tools, thinkorswim if you’re experienced.

    Scottrade.
$500.00 minimum to open an account.
NO account maintenance, service, or inactivity fees.

You open a brokerage account and deposit funds into your account.

Thinkorswim. Higher minimum for opening an account ($3500), but they don’t have a lot of the restrictions that others have, especially concerning selling options. VERY good customer service, which is much more than I can say for eTrade.
